Top load vs. Front Load Washers: Which is better?

Front Load Washer
A washer obviously should thoroughly clean your clothes, but it needs to do more than that. It needs to be user friendly and fit nicely into your living area. It needs to be efficient and appealing. Here is a comparison of the two types of washers, front load washers and top load washers.  We carry a wide selection of washers at Bloor Dovercourt Appliances in Toronto to help you make your selection.

Front Load Washers – Space is a main reason why many Canadians are turning to front load washers. They can be stacked on a dryer to fit into a confined area. In addition, front load washers use less energy and therefore have lower operating costs. The downside is they require a special type of detergent and are pricier than top loaders.

Top Load Washer
Top Load Washers – Studies show that the average top load washer lasts three years longer (14 years). They also allow users to add clothes during a cycle, whereas front load washers lock while in use. Owners of top load washers also enjoy doing the wash while standing up, instead of having to bend over (necessary with a front load washer).

Now that you know the basic positives and negatives of both washers, you can hopefully make the right choice for your situation.

Don't forget that prices, brand name, available rebates, Energy rating and more should come into your decision when finding the new washer - but if you're torn between Top or Front Load, hopefully this will help you choose!
