How to Measure for a New Refrigerator

Getting new fridge is a lot of fun and Bloor Dovercourt Appliances has been helping Torontonians for decades, but if it shows up on delivery day & is either too big, or too small for your space you're not going to be very happy.  So that excitement of buying a shiny new appliance can quickly fade if you do not get the right dimensions for your new refrigerator.

With our customers from all over Toronto and the GTA, we don't get to measure each and every customers appliance order but trust that they take proper measurements for the space.

Many people believe that knowing the height and width of the fridge are the only measurements you need to make sure your appliance will fit.  This is wrong!

So what are the measurements that you need to note when purchasing and when installing a fridge? You must take all three of these important measures, which are:
·         Height
·         Width
·         Depth

Tip for Taking Height/Width Measurements

Take measurements of the cabinet space or any other space in which to fit the refrigerator. What people do is focus on the fridge forgetting that they have cabinets to contend with when bringing in the new fridge.

Tip for Depth Measurement - Include Handles!
The depth dimensions are the measurements you will take from the most-end at the back of the fridge to the front of the front. It the door has protruding handles, they should also me measured in the total depth dimensions.

Tip for Clearance Space

A refrigerator should be place in an area where it will be well aerated. This means that you should ensure that there is a half inch or an inch of space between the fridge and the surrounding suffices. This is the clearance dimensions. It ensures you do not push a fridge into a tight fit, makes the works easy when installing the appliance, and it keeps the refrigerator aerated within that space.

While you may wish to focus on the appliance itself, the real focus should be on the space you will be working with. This is because modern refrigerators come with label with its dimensions. However, many fridges will have the width and height only with the depth of the appliance missing. There is also the question of clearance, which is a reason why you should give focus on the space you intend to fit in the new refrigerator.

At the end of the day, Bloor Dovercourt Appliances in Toronto is here to help you throughout the entire process.  Just be sure to take the best measurements you can so that your excitement for a new appliance isn't dulled by the fact that it doesn't fit properly upon delivery.
